Portfolio > House of Refuge

The artwork's name references Whistler's Nocturne in Black and Gold, which embodied the turmoil of human emotions in amorphous abstraction.

This piece was made for House of Refuge, at the Satellite Show during Miami Art Basel week. The installation was located in a hotel near the site of the Biscayne Bay House of Refuge, where a caretaker once lived and searched the wilderness shore for castaways after every storm. In light of the recent refugee crisis and xenophobia, we hoped to draw attention to a time when governments set up infrastructure to help victims of powerful forces.
